About Chittorgarh :

Chittorgarh, one of the major tourist destinations in Rajasthan is synonymous the giant Chittorgarh Fort which is a witness to several gory battles and invasions. Called as pride of Rajasthan, Chittorgarh was once a rich kingdom known for chivalry and sacrifices. The fort and palaces of Chittorgarh echo the history of glorious past. The Chittorgarh Fort is the largest fort in India perched on a hill.

      

Chittorgarh was attacked by invaders for three times, and some of the bloodiest battle took place at Chittorgarh. Alauddin Khilji attacked in 1303; Bahadur Shah in 1533 and Akbar also invaded Chittorgarh once. Some parts of the fort are in ruin; still this is one of the most visited tour destinations in Rajasthan. The royal luxury train Palace on Wheels also covers Chittorgarh in the tour itinerary.

Travel Attractions at Chittorgarh

Vijay Stambh: Maharana Kumbha founded the Vijay Stambh, the Victory Tower in the heart of the town. It symbolizes the triumph of the kingdom over the intruder Modammed Khilii. Images of Hondi God and goddesses are seen on the tower.

Chittorgarh Fort: The Chittorgarh Fort is related with various stories of romance and audacity. The fort was built in the 7th century AD. It covers an area of 700 acres. There are palaces located inside the fort. The sculpture works of the fort are worth viewing. According to myths, the Pandava warrior Bhima established the Chittorgarh city.

Jaimal and Patta Palaces: Jaimal and Patta palaces are situated on a stony surface which is ascending from the southern part of Gomukh Kund. The palaces belong to Rathore and Sisodia Patta.

Kirti Stambh: Kirti Stambh is towering 22 meters. It was established by the first Jain Tirthankar.

Meera Bai Temple: Meera Bai temple has an attracting arcade with four pavilions.

Excursion from Chittorgarh:

While touring Chittorgarh one can also tour Bassi village known for temples, forts, sculptures; Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to wild boars, antelopes, panthers, migratory birds; Matri Kundia temple known as Haridwar of Mewar and Sanwariyaji Temple.

Shopping enthusiasts can shop at the markets such as Sadar Bazar, New cloth Market, Fort road Market, Rana Sanga Market. The main buyable things are home decors and Thewa articles.
