Baneshwar festival featured by various traditions and rituals is held annually in the months of January and February. This festival is devoted to Lord Shiva and it is a cultural identity of the Bhils community of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. The venue of this religious festival is a delta formed by the Rivers, Som and Mahi where the devotees offer prayers to Lord Shiva at the old temple of Mahadeva. Locally known as Baneshwar, Shiva is the main worshipped deity in this festival. Baneshwar is synonymous with Shiva Lingam.
Traditional cultural programs are the main celebrations of this festival in Rajasthan. The performers perform folk dance, music, Raslila, theatre and other programs are animal show, magic shows and fun rides for children’s and acrobatic feats. Fairs are held which sale handicrafts of the Rajasthan.
While you visit Dungarpur during this festival you see a vibrant tradition of the people. They are culturally rich and seek blessings from Lord Shiva worshipping at the old Shiva temple.
To reach Dungarpur, you have to reach first Udaipur city. Then take a train to Dungarpur.
