Ossian temple is 65 kms away from Jodhpur located at the end of the Thar Desert.
Ossian once houses hundred of Jain and Hindu temples, now it has some ruins of the temples along with some surviving temple. It is said that a Rajput prince of Prathihara dynasty named Utpaladeva built the temples of Ossian.
The ruins of the Ossian temples are seen, most of them were built of red sand stones. Three of the temples are dedicated to Harihara or the union of Shiva and Vishnu. The sun temple belongs to the oldest group of temple built in the 10th century. The carvings of the temple are same as the carvings of the Konark temple. Now Ossian houses only 16 temples which are also in deteoriated condition.
The temple which remains in good condition is Schiyamata located on a nearby hillock which is dedicated to Durga built in1234 AD.
